Sweet Remembrances, the old-time photo parlor on Bearskin Neck, recently won several awards in the Antique and Amusement Photographers International 2007 Photo Contest.

AAPI, the old-time photo industry's largest photography association, includes members from the United States, Canada, and several other countries.

Sweet Remembrances, which has been a Rockport tradition for 24 years, took one first, one second and one third place prize, four honors, and one achievement award in as many categories.

The awards were presented at the annual convention of Antique and Amusement Photographers International, held in Las Vegas in February.

This is the second year in a row that Sweet Remembrances entered an industry photo contest and won.

Last year, the Rockport businesss entered the Central Casting Photo Contest and won six ribbons out of seven entries made.

"We are proud to have proven our consistency in producing quality photography, despite the general impression that these are just souvenir shots," said owner Zorylee Diaz-Lupitou in a statement.

The portraits entered into the contest were created by members of the staff including Diaz-Lupitou of Rockport, Jennifer Mineo of Rockport, Paul Masse of Salem, Michael Kahn of Beverly, Laura White of Beverly and Anne Thornton of Salem.

Do You Photograph Pets?

Pet Gallery

Yes, we do photograph pets and we even have special hats and costume accessories just for them in several styles. If the pet is in a group photograph (both people and pet) there is no extra charge for the photo session to include the pet in the picture. If the portrait is of the pet or pets only, then the regular sitting fee applies. Click on the movie above to see a slideshow of a few examples.

Rockport Business Places in International Photo Contest

How Long Does It Take?

Ever wonder what's involved in having your old time photo taken? When you think the whole process, dressing up in a costume, getting your picture taken, then printing it out...sound very time consuming. Actually its not. You can come in the door, pick what style you want and be out with your photo in hand 10-15 minutes later.

How can it be so quick? Well, to start with, most of the costumes are designed as one or two pieces that go right over your street clothes and adjust to fit in the back. They are easy on, easy off.

Then, we set you up on the backdrop, give you the appropriate props and we're ready to take a few shots. With digital photography, its quick, easy, and painless.

Almost immediately you get to preview your images and pick what you'd like to have printed. Printing takes only 90 seconds per print. We can even frame it for you right away so its ready to hang up on your wall as soon as you get home.

All things considered, its a small investment of time for the years of fun you will create when sharing your old time photo with others.

...Zorylee Diaz-Lupitou (Estrada ’92) owns Sweet Remembrances, an old-fashioned photo parlor in Rockport, MA. Zorylee studied graphic design with an emphasis in photography at Universidad Landivar in Guatemala. When she and her husband William relocated to the US, she worked as a portrait photographer as well as photographing tourists in vintage costumes at Sweet Remembrances. Two years ago she purchased the business, whose website is www.sweetremembrances.net. During the off-season, they take regular portraits.

Rockport Business Sweeps National Photo Contest

Rockport MA: Sweet Remembrances, the old time photo parlor on Bearskin Neck, recently swept the awards given by Central Casting Costumes, a California firm that makes costumes, hats and props for the Old time photo industry as well as period theater and film. Sweet Remembrances took one first, two second, and three third place awards.

The awards were presented at the annual convention of Antique and Amusement Photographers International, held in Las Vegas in February.

Sweet Remembrances owner, Zorylee Diaz-Lupitou credits the winning photographs to the whole team, comprised of Jennifer Mineo of Rockport, Anne Thornton of Salem, Laura White of Beverly, William Diaz-Lupitou of Rockport, and herself also of Rockport, since all had a hand in shooting and editing these portraits during the normal course of business.

Sweet Remembrances has been a Rockport tradition for over two decades with a reputation for being a fun, family place. Over that time it has become one of the finest studios of its kind in the region and has built up a loyal customer base—some of whom make Sweet Remembrances their primary reason for visiting Rockport.

So, what exactly does Sweet Remembrances do? Diaz-Lupitou, describes it as “the only form of time travel yet possible. We allow people to play dress-up with realistic costumes and experience the past while having fun conjecturing what kind of person they would have been or would have liked to be had they lived back then.”

Early Summer 2005-Portfolio, The Artful Shopper-Summer in Rockport!

Summer in Rockport!
On assignment for Portfolio, I headed out to the small Cape Ann village of Rockport. I was excited about venturing here, as it had been a while since I last walked around the wharf, poked into the shops and checked out the local art scene. Lucky for me it was a sunny day, and the store owners were busily getting ready to open for the season...I pocketed the note and ventured over to Sweet Remembrances, an old-fashioned photo studio where you can dress up and be photographed in vintage clothing. This is a fun spot-great for families and friends. I'll be going back soon with my daughter for a picture we will use on this year's Christmas cards...
